Our Mission

This is not charity. This is transformation.

The Burn & Scar Treatment Center of Los Angeles is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by the clinical team to address a critical unmet need in scar and burn care. It is the world's first non-profit initiative to blend state-of-the-art aesthetic dermatology, regenerative medicine, and trauma-informed care for patients suffering disfigurement from burns, severe acne, trauma, abuse, or surgical complications.

Every scar tells a story of survival. Our mission is to restore lives, confidence, and functionality by delivering advanced, medically-backed, and cosmetically transformative treatments to individuals suffering from scars, burns, or skin trauma — regardless of their financial means.

Why This Exists

A personal mission born from witnessing the gap between survival and recovery.

AETHRAFORM Clinical Team

Founder, Burn & Scar Treatment Center of Los Angeles

In 2019, the clinical team encountered burn and trauma survivors who desperately needed advanced scar revision but lacked the financial means to receive it. Emergency rooms saved their lives. Insurance covered their acute care. But the long road from survival to recovery — the reconstructive work that restores function, appearance, and dignity — was a road most could not afford to walk.

That gap between surviving and truly living again compelled the clinical team to establish the Burn & Scar Treatment Center of Los Angeles (EIN 83-2655754), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with an audacious vision: to become “the global epicenter for aesthetic trauma recovery and wound healing innovation.”

He brought every technique from his private practice — the same lasers, biologics, surgical protocols, and regenerative technologies used by paying patients — and made them available at no cost to those who need them most. Veterans disfigured by combat. Children scalded in household accidents. Abuse survivors carrying visible reminders of violence. Every patient receives the same world-class care. No bill. No compromise.

“This is not charity. This is transformation.”

Who We Serve

Bringing world-class scar therapy to those who need it most, in a structured yet compassionate way.

Burn Survivors

Individuals left with contractures, hypertrophic scars, and disfigurement after thermal, chemical, or electrical burns. The medical system saves lives but often stops short of long-term scar rehabilitation.

Veterans & First Responders

Service members with combat-related burns, blast injuries, and service-related disfigurement. Partnering with Operation Mend at UCLA, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the VA healthcare system.

Domestic Abuse & Violence Survivors

Survivors of acid attacks, domestic violence, and human trafficking who carry physical reminders of trauma. Partnering with Face Forward International and local shelters to erase those marks.

Severe Acne Scar Patients

Young people and adults with deep, disfiguring acne scarring who have been bullied, isolated, or denied treatment due to cost. Scars that destroy confidence can be rebuilt.

Surgical & Traumatic Scar Patients

Individuals with scars from car accidents, surgeries, Mohs procedures, or other traumatic events. Life-altering scars that often go untreated because they fall outside insurance coverage.

Treatment Modalities

A personalized, multi-modal treatment plan that improves appearance, restores function, and rebuilds confidence.

No two scars are alike. The protocol emphasizes an intention-driven, tailored strategy for each patient — “every face is unique, every scar is unique, and both deserve a personalized approach.” Each patient's plan draws on a customized combination of modalities to achieve scar healing that was previously thought unattainable.

Surgical Scar Release & Revision

Contracture releases, excisions, and tissue rearrangement to restore range of motion and comfort. Z-plasty, W-plasty, and staged excision techniques address the structural damage that limits movement and daily function.

Laser Resurfacing & Remodeling

Multi-pass ablative CO2, fractional Erbium, Halo hybrid, and non-ablative Nd:YAG protocols layered to reduce scar thickness, improve color, and restore pliability. Combined laser stacking yields superior results to single-modality approaches.

RE:SKN™ Trinity Protocol

The signature RE:SKN™ approach combines three treatment types in a single sitting: (1) Vascular Laser to target redness and prevent pigment complications, (2) RF Microneedling for collagen contraction and tightening, and (3) Resurfacing Laser or Peel for controlled micro-injury and smoother rebuilding. This layered single-session approach accelerates scar remodeling beyond what any one modality achieves alone.

BIOREIN™ Biologic Reinforcement

Exosomes (MDX by AnteAGE), PRP, stem cell matrices (ACell), fat grafting, and peptide therapies (BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu) accelerate healing and transform disordered scar tissue into organized collagen. BIOREIN™ is the biologic overlay system — the healing stacks, serums, growth factors, and delivery methods that power tissue regeneration — now donated to those who need it most.

Injectable Reconstruction

Dermal fillers, collagen biostimulants (Sculptra, Bellafill), and neuromodulators (Botox) to restore volume in depressed scars, relax contractile tension, and rebuild contour lost to trauma.

LUMICODE™ Pigment Correction

Post-burn hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone are corrected with the LUMICODE™ system. Philosophy: "We blend, we don’t bleach." The Trinity Pigment Protocol combines three laser wavelengths in one session — 1064nm deep laser for deep pigment and vessels, 1927nm mid-depth laser to shed pigmented cells, and 532nm picosecond surface laser to shatter superficial pigment — paired with chemical peels, BIOREIN™ anti-pigment overlay, and MELANOX CODE IV drip.

Pressure & Silicone Therapy

Custom compression garments, medical-grade silicone sheeting, and corticosteroid taping for hypertrophic and keloid scar management. Combined with laser protocols for optimal long-term remodeling.

Mental Health & Peer Support

Licensed trauma therapists, peer mentors from the burn survivor community, image coaching, and support groups. Healing scars means healing the person inside and out.

The Center leverages the same advanced RE:SKN™ protocols, BIOREIN™ Biologic Reinforcement overlays, and RECODEX™ recovery engine used in the practice — now made accessible to those who need them most.

Scar Type → Treatment Matching

Every scar type has a specific, evidence-based treatment strategy. The clinical team identifies scar morphology and maps the precise approach.

Rolling Scars

Broad, wave-like indentations with rounded edges

Laser columns combined with manual scar release (subcision) and collagen stimulation to lift the depressed tissue and rebuild structure beneath the surface.

Boxcar Scars

Sharp-edged, rectangular or oval depressions

Laser planing to smooth the sharp vertical edges, combined with resurfacing to blend scar borders into surrounding skin.

Ice-Pick Scars

Narrow, deep, V-shaped holes that extend into the dermis

TCA CROSS — precise application of trichloroacetic acid into each individual scar to trigger deep collagen remodeling from the bottom up. Repeated every 4–8 weeks.

Micro-Pits

Small, shallow, pinpoint scars

Silicone micro-droplet filler (Silikon 1000) injected in staged sessions to permanently elevate depressed tissue to skin level.

Skin Type & Safety Guidance

Treatment parameters are carefully adjusted based on Fitzpatrick skin type to maximize results while minimizing risk of pigment complications.

Fitzpatrick I–II (Fair / Light)

Low pigment risk

Standard protocols at full power. These skin types tolerate aggressive laser energy well with minimal risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Standard recovery timelines apply.

Fitzpatrick III (Medium)

Moderate pigment risk

Lower energy settings with extra caution. Extended intervals between sessions, heightened sun protection protocols, and closer pigment monitoring. May require LUMICODE™ anti-pigment overlay as a precaution.

Fitzpatrick IV–VI (Olive / Dark)

High pigment risk

Conservative energy parameters with extended recovery periods between sessions. Mandatory pre-treatment with pigment-suppressing products (hydroquinone, tranexamic acid, or kojic acid) for 4–6 weeks before any laser work. BIOREIN™ ANTIPIGMENT overlay applied post-treatment. MELANOX CODE IV drip may be used to suppress melanin production systemically.

Skin type assessment is performed at the initial consultation. Treatment plans are adjusted in real time based on how each patient's skin responds to ensure safety and optimal outcomes.

The Emer Method™ Five Pillars

The same systematic framework that powers every transformation in the practice — applied to burn and scar reconstruction.

Code Trauma

Map scar architecture and design the surgical/laser approach. Every scar is photographed, measured, and graded to create a precise treatment blueprint unique to the patient’s anatomy and trauma history.

Suppress Chaos

Control inflammation, infection, and scar hypertrophy. Anti-inflammatory protocols, corticosteroid therapy, and pressure garments stabilize the wound environment before reconstruction begins.

Lock Collagen

Remodel collagen through fractional lasers and biologics. Multi-pass CO2, Erbium, and BioRein™ exosome overlays transform disordered scar tissue into organized, pliable collagen.

Restore Energy

IV therapies and peptides fuel cellular regeneration. BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu, and NAD+ infusions accelerate healing from the inside, giving damaged tissue the metabolic resources to rebuild.

Ascend

Full reintegration — physical, emotional, and social transformation. Peer mentorship, image coaching, counseling, and career support ensure the inner healing matches the outer reconstruction.

The Care Model

Every barrier removed. Every patient supported. From first contact through long-term follow-up.

Travel Assistance

Donated airline miles, rideshare credits, and coordinated ground transportation to bring patients to Los Angeles from anywhere in the country or abroad.

Lodging & Accommodation

Partnerships with Ronald McDonald House, Hospitality Homes, and compassionate-rate hotels to house patients and families during multi-week treatment courses.

Meals & Nutrition

Meal stipends, DoorDash Community Credits, and volunteer meal-train coordination to ensure patients and families are nourished throughout recovery.

Post-Treatment Care

Take-home care packages with wound supplies, Emer Skin products, sunscreen, and scar creams. Virtual follow-up visits and local provider coordination for ongoing maintenance.

Counseling & Therapy

Licensed psychologists, PTSD-specialist therapists, and peer mentors from the burn survivor community. Free therapy sessions for every patient in the program.

Life Coaching & Reintegration

Image coaching, career counseling, and school liaison support to help patients re-enter daily life with renewed confidence after their physical transformation.

A burn survivor from out of state can say “yes” to treatment knowing they won't have to worry about plane tickets, hotel costs, or meals. We remove every barrier so patients can focus on healing.

How Treatment Works: Example Journeys

Representative examples showing how the Center's multi-stage approach transforms lives.

Please note: The following journeys are representative examples based on the types of cases the Center treats. They are not real patients. As our first cohorts complete treatment, their real stories — told with full consent and dignity — will replace these narratives.

Maria, 34

Burn Survivor

Example patient

Maria sustained third-degree burns across 40% of her body in a kitchen fire. After emergency care saved her life, she was left with severe contractures on her arms and neck that limited movement and made daily tasks painful. Traditional insurance covered acute care but not reconstructive rehabilitation.

Week 1

Comprehensive scar mapping and treatment planning

Months 1–3

Surgical contracture releases on both arms, enabling full range of motion for the first time in years

Months 3–6

Staged laser resurfacing and regenerative biologics (exosomes + PRP) to rebuild collagen and reduce scar thickness

Months 6–12

Injectable reconstruction to restore contour; ongoing peer mentorship and counseling

For three years I couldn't raise my arms above my shoulders. Now I can hold my daughter without pain. The clinical team gave me my life back.

James, 28

Combat Veteran

Example patient

James, a Marine veteran, suffered blast-related burns and shrapnel scars across his face and hands during deployment. The VA addressed his physical injuries but could not provide the advanced scar revision his disfigurement required. He withdrew socially and struggled with PTSD tied to his visible scars.

Week 1

Evaluation with trauma-informed care team and PTSD therapist

Months 1–2

Multi-pass fractional CO2 laser resurfacing on facial scars; silicone therapy on hands

Months 2—4

BioRein regenerative overlays and fat grafting to restore facial volume lost to blast injury

Months 4–8

Continued laser sessions, peer mentorship with fellow veterans, and career reintegration coaching

People used to stare. Now they see me, not my scars. The Center didn't just fix my skin — it gave me permission to be visible again.

Aaliyah, 19

Childhood Scar Patient

Example patient

Aaliyah was scalded by boiling water at age two, leaving her with thick hypertrophic scarring across her chest, shoulder, and upper arm. Throughout school she endured bullying and isolation, wearing long sleeves even in summer. Her family could not afford the multi-stage treatment she needed.

Week 1

Full scar assessment; connection with peer support group and counselor

Months 1–3

Pressure garment therapy combined with corticosteroid injections to flatten hypertrophic tissue

Months 3–6

Fractional Erbium laser sessions and PRP biologics to improve color, texture, and pliability

Months 6–10

Final refinement sessions; image coaching and school liaison support for confident return to campus

I wore long sleeves for seventeen years. This summer I wore a tank top for the first time. I finally feel like everyone else.

Clinical Research & Innovation

Not just a charity care provider. A research engine that advances the science of scar therapy.

IRB-Approved Protocols

Every patient treated through the nonprofit is enrolled (with consent) in an outcome tracking study. IRB oversight ensures data is collected ethically and any experimental aspects are monitored for safety.

Novel uses of exosomes, stem cell therapies, and regenerative biologics for scar treatment can be offered under research protocol, giving patients access to therapies not yet widely available.

Real-World Innovation Testbed

The Center serves as a living laboratory for scar therapy — testing new exosome formulations, device prototypes, combination protocols, and peptide therapies in the most challenging cases.

We can test emerging products, protocols, and technologies faster and more effectively than traditional trials — publishing results that will guide burn units and dermatology offices worldwide.
